avistar problem
 

I fly an avistar. It's a great flying plane but lately I've encountered a strange problem. When I come out of a loop or make a sharp turn the airplane suddenly shoots straight up like i've given it full up elevator. First I thought it might be interference but I've flown in several locations and it's happened in all of them. It does'nt happen all the time. Anybody have any possible answers to this strange problem.

Classic symtoms of a rubber banded wing with out enough rubber or weak reused rubber, not sure if that is a banded wing but if it is layon the rubber thats whats happening. under high 'G' the leading edge suddenly lifts causing a very bizarre flight.

Its the band on wing.
your loading the wing at the bottom of the loop and in the corners.
The leading edge of the wing lifts, changeing the incidence momentarily.

put your wing on, lift the L.E. while pushing down on the front dowel. if it lifts easely use more bands.

a better solution is to convert the wing/fuse to a bolt on set up.
simply addind bands will work, but you may break the dowels at the bottom of a loop[X(]

Thanks for the info. The wing on the avistar is rubber banded. I've thought about changing to bolt-on but did'nt know how difficult it would be. I'll add more rubberbands on my next flight and see if that solves the problem. Thanks again..

Theres no doubt that is the problem, happens to folks all the time. There is no need to convert to a bolted wing if you don,t want to. I prefer it for a trainer used as such and you are not going to break a peg from to many bands in flight, ain,t gonna happen unless someone used itty bitty sticks for some reason.

Take a close look at my avitar. That airplane weighs fully loaded with lights, fuel and in the float configuration 16 lbs. It is #2, #1 was lost in a midair and that one was a banded wing for many happy flights and yes even simple aerobatics.
