Canopy Tinting Using Paint
 

I have tinted canopies in the past use Rit Dye with good results; My newest plane is a Seagull Decathalon; the problem is that the front canopies and side windows are preinstalled; the front canopy can and has been removed so I can paint the interior; the side ones can not or rather they are well installed making it difficult; I have heard of spray painting canopies for tinting, I think this is an option considering the preistallment of the side windows; to have the same results I would like to tint all pieces the same; what paint do you use and how to go about it would be a great help.

If it was me, I'd try some of the 'candy' type modeling paints. They stay transparent.

I just use Rustoleum flat black-but it makes the canopy really dark. Have not tried other colors-just mask off canopy and put two light coats on inside-do not get paint on outside. Also be sure to wash canopy with dish detergent and water before painting and avoid touching the inside before painting. I always try a sample spray on scrap parts before proceding, just in case the plastic type is different. Flipstart

The LHS should have Testors transparent spray paints in several colors. Just shoot light coats until it's as dark as you need it. It'll be uneven till you get a few coats on, but the more coats you apply, the more even the color gets. If you screw it up, alcohol will remove it for another try. It's not fuel proof of course, so you'll have to spray the inside surface.

Look to the lexan paints for car bodies. There are some transparent colors in those paints. Local hobby shop should have them if they are into cars at all.
