Engine starting without spinner
Ok, when I get my SE5A finished, obviously it wont have a spinner for scale appearance. So how would I crank it with my electric starter?

RE: Engine starting without spinner
Pull your strating gone out, flip it, use the small hole, stick it on the prop retaining nut and go to town!

OOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh h......
thanks, signed, idiot. |
RE: Engine starting without spinner
I think he meant pull the starter cone out and flip it around. This should work fine. If not the back flip meathod will start almost any engine.

Clearly my fingers do not type my thoughts as razor sharp as I'd like sometimes. Didn't mean to make you feel like you've lost your mind ;)

RE: Engine starting without spinner
No, no, at first I thought there was supposed to be some sort of connector on the other end of the spindle at the BACK of the starter and I said "Wait a sec, I never saw anything on the back" but then I had a "duh" moment and remembered seeing a hole/slot sort of setup on the bottom of the cone and realized what you meant.
Good thing I did, cause I was about to start drilling holes in the back of my starter. I don't think it would have worked though. Thanks again, Pete |
RE: Engine starting without spinner
They also make different starting cones with different holes in them. I use some of those when I don't use a spinner. Sometimes on the larger ones, the starter cone gets stuck on the nut and comes out when it starts, and then the engine throws it.

RE: Engine starting without spinner
Sullivan makes a neat gadget- Bare Prop Adapter No. S635. This is an insert for your starter cone with fingers to contact the propeller blades directly. Go to http://www.sullivanproducts.com and click on Starter Inserts.

RE: Engine starting without spinner
If using a safety prop nut, chances are the big side of your starting cone will work just fine. That's how I start my saito 100.
