How do I convert this logo?

1 Attachment(s)
All,

I am planning on building a Top-Flite DC-3 and wanted to scale it after the old Icelandic Airways plane in the photo below.
I have a poor quality image of the airline logo and wanted to modify it into a mask or a template that I could then use to spray paint the logo onto the finished model.

What would be the best way to do this?
I have 30 day tryout versions of both Photoshop and Illustrator but am not very good at either.

Pls note that the plane in the photo is a model :)- I believe it's the Ziroli DC3

Thanks in advance

Ari

Best way would be to redraw in a CAD prog then it can be scaled to any size, or you could redraw the old way with a pencil.

Cheers.

How big overall would the logo be when finished?

Although noble, I would think instead of a mask, you try for a decal. There was a fellow in the scratchbuilt forum offering services for decals, but you are awfully far away to take advantage of this.

One thing with creating a mask, is that you may contact a local vinyl sign maker, and have them knife cut you a mask. I do these in CAD, and they cut one up on a Rolland machine using my frisket. It may just be easier for you to haul everything to a local service, and let them go to it. The new Rolland cutters can ink jet print the colors onto vinyl and then cut the edges so that you can peal and stick it on.

Scan the logo into photoshop, MS Paint, etc then clean it up. MOST word processors will let you adjust the size. Then print it out on some water slide decal paper.

http://www.beldecal.com/ for the decal paper.

that's good now all you have to do is figure out how big or small you have to make it to be scale. A man that i fly with is a sign maker and he makes stuff like this all the time. I would suggest taking it to a sign maker and letting him/her deal will all the frustration of cutting it just right.

The best way is trace the logo using Adobe Illustrator in vector format. Then you can scale the logo to any size without degrading image quality.
