except when it loops .......... SNAP
I'm flying a Bat, combat plane, and it flies well ........ except when it loops. It will snap at the top of the loop and not fly thru it. This looks cool but on a low pass that could be a good splat.
I have tried to reduce the throw in the elevator but it does not seem to help. The plane balances a bit nose down, maybe 3 degrees and is ok side to side. Is this natural for this type of plane? How about mixing elev and alerion? Thanks for any help on this issue. This plane is a hoot to fly and I am looking forward to learning to fly combat. Thanks, |
RE: except when it loops .......... SNAP
Once I had a hand me down Cub that would snap on the backside of a loop. With less than 20 flights the airplane committed suicide and took the engine and muffler with it. One day on a gradual, straight and level climb out at about 60 feet it snapped unrecoverable into the ground. My experience indicates that the problem should be found and fixed.

My Cub destroyed itself before the problem was found. It did not have enough dihedral for a Cub but that may not have been the problem. Wish I could help more.

It's stalling and rolling at the top of the loop. Check it carefully for warps or misalignment of the flying surfaces. If I were playing with it, I might consider raising both ailerons a turn or two at the clevis, and maybe tweak them relative to each other.

Reduce some more of the elevator throw. ENJOY !!!! RED

RE: except when it loops .......... SNAP
too much elevator will always create a snap at the top of a loop.

RE: except when it loops .......... SNAP
how tight are you making the loop?usually a snap at the top is either too much elevater or not enough speed.does it always snap in the same direction?

RE: except when it loops .......... SNAP
I can almost guarantee that you are simply giving it too much elevator. I had this same problem with my flying wing and it was snap rolling at the top every single time until I learned that I had to fly it through the loop and give it very little elevator. Now it does loops as it should and there is no more snap roll problem.
So, I would recommend that you take it up to altirude and see what happens when you actually fly "through" the loop, instead of just simply holding max elevator. |
