Yes, you can make your own prop. The free flight rubber powered people USED TO do it all the time.

My question is why ?

Props are cheap, well made and in all probability a lot more accurate in blade pitch than what you can carve by hand.

Yes, I agree. There are ways of making very good props out of carbon fiber, but you have to be very skilled in the field in order to do it properly. I would just fork over the cash to keep from tearing up your plane or hurting yourelf.

RE: how to make a propeller

A month or so ago I posted some locations of "how to" articles on prop carving....I believe the articles appeared in Model Aviation. There is also an article on molding CF/composite props which I did not post.... if that is what you want, I'll lcheck my file for the info on month/magazine in which the article appeared. All of the items deal with gas model props.

i agree, just spend the extra $2, ul spend hours making it, probably screw up and have to start from scratch, when u could just go to the LHS and grab one off the shelf

Before you try to make a prop for a powered plane I would run it past the AMA's legal counsel - I don't think homemade props would show due diligence in injury prevention in trying to defend a liability claim unless you can prove your expertise at doing so???
