lipo reciever battery
i am building a great planes giles kit and am looking to get it as light as possible. would i be able to save weight by using a small lipo instead of a normal nicad reciever battery? i need it to power 4 standard jr servos and one naro for throttle. seems like an ounce or two could be saved here.

RE: lipo reciever battery
you can get a 2 cell lipo. you'll have to get a 5.5 volt regulator or you'll burn up the reciever. You'er not going to save much weight by doing this. It is on the other hand a good way to get higher capacity with about the same weight.
here are a couple [link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=voltage+regulator&OverallC atID=]couple regulators[/link] this might be all you'll need [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFBL0&P=7]fma[/link] |
RE: lipo reciever battery
yeah, i saw that fma one.. that with a 850 mah lipo would be 2 ounces lighter than a normal 4 cell nicad pack.

RE: lipo reciever battery
I too did a lot of research on using lipo's in a 27% Ultimate but have given up on the idea because I just could not put up with removing the batteries from my plane every time I needed to charge, just not worth the hassle to save a few ozs. Something to consider.
