Monokote issues...
I have a NexStar Select .46 RTF plane. I got used to flying with the gas engine and its been an awesome plane. Problem is the excess fuel (I already got a peice to now direct it away from the plane) stripped off a lot of the stripes and window peices off the monokote. I have two questions then... 1) what kind of material is used for the windows and decals? Is it just more monokote? How do you get it to stick to the skin of the aircraf? 2) Can I strip all of the monokote of the fuselage and put new monokote on? What do you need to do that? Thanks for your help.

RE: Monokote issues...
Vinyl decals and certain MK trim sheets (self-adhesive) don't always stand up to the exhaust spray. If you replace it with regular monokote (iron on) you shouldn't have anymore problems. I have used the checkerboard trim sheets and the exhaust oil turns the adhesive into a gooey mess. Recovering the entire plane is not nescessary.

RE: Monokote issues...
You should be able to seal the new trim edges with a water base spray polyurethane?

Well I did have that gooey mess but then some dried and its all smeared on and its crazy! How do you get that mess off! How do you clean up the monokote so you can put more on? Does monokote stick to monokote? Should I just be able to iron a new peice right on? Thanks for your help.

RE: Monokote issues...
If you can get the oil and old glue off, you can put on new Monocoat. But an ARF most likely has Ora Cover on it and not Monocoat.
I've gotten it off with several applications of rubbing alcohol. Enjoy, Jim |
RE: Monokote issues...
Alcohol or a little laquer thinner will clean it right up.
From the Tower website: Covering: Polyester based heat shrink, color scheme is white and red with silver accents. Your guess is a good as mine as the brand, but Monokote should work just fine, just take it easy on the heat to start off, then turn it up as needed. |
