ADVANTAGES / DISADVANTAGES TO REMOVING MUFFLER BAFFLE?

Are there any Advantages / Disadvantages to removing the factory baffle inside a muffler? Does it depend on the engine? Engines I thought about removing the baffle in:

OS .46AX
OS .50SX
ST .45

Thanks in advance.

Nothing that will hit you like a ton of bricks...........

Yeah, there are differences, but most people couldn't tell the difference if two identical engines were running, one with and one without.

There is a thread in here somewhere (probably the engine forum) that has the differences listed. They're few and not very great. But as you'd expect, without the baffle, they're somewhat louder, and the muffler pressure is very slightly less. Neither is going to make or break your model.

It's so dead simple to swap in or out the baffle on my OS.46AX that I've done it a couple of times to see if it was worth the effort, and it's not. Only thing I saw was that one muffler leaked around the joint with the baffle out. I used some compound and worked that joint into 100% fit and it doesn't leak anymore. It certainly wasn't worth the effort.

Thanks, I guess I won't mess with it...

I gained 2 thousand RPMs on my TT 61 when I removed the baffle. My OS 46FX didn't gain quite that much, but I'm glad I removed it. Noise is not an issue where I fly, so I yank em all out.

Is noise reduction the only reason for the baffle or does it serve other purposes like giving the appropriate tank pressure or engine back pressure?

It does offer a more precise back pressure, and the low end will probably need to be richened slightly.

Ok, thanks. I will just have to experiment with it to see what I get.
