Muffler mount deflection angle?

I am trying to fit an ASP 120 AR into a model with a fairly big cowelling, but I am unable to fit the mufler in without cutting a large hole in the underside of the cowel...

I thought about making an adapter to allow the muffler to be fitted at a 30 degree deflection angle, my question is - will mounting the muffler at an angle affect the preformance of the engine in any way?? I understand to get optimal power from a piston engine, you need to allow the exhaust to be displaced as quick as possible...

Any ideas? and if it does sound like it will work, any ideas about how to make the adapter??

Cheers

Sounds like a lot of work. Have you considered a Pitts style muffler from Bisson, Slimline or Jtec?

don't think it will make any difference, only problem is you'll need enough air movement to cool the engine.
