I've gone without a tach for several years now, but I think I really need one now that I've bought my first 4 stroke. There seems to be several brands on the market. Globee intellitach, Tower Hobbies, Hanger 9, etc. Which tach are you guys using and what are your recommendations. Do they all offer similar accuracy? I definately want a digital tach. Let me know.

I generally make a habit of trashing Hobbico electronics, but I have a Hobbico digital tach that is about six or seven years old and still functions fine...go figure.

I use a Globee tach. I recently had some problems with the rpm readings running all over the place due to less than ideal lighting conditions in the field. I took the case apart, painted the sensor housing with black paint, and a coating of black sharpy ink on the perimeter of the clear plastic lens. Now the tach works perfect in all conditions, even further from the prop.

coolmarlin,
After a lot of reading and asking I bought a TNC from Tony Criscimagna.

See it here http://www.ulster.net/~tnc/tncweb.html

Thay cost more than others but are very reliable.

No wonder, With prices starting at 79.95 for there sport model tach!!! :stupid:

The other tachs are all in the 20-40 range.

They are "out of business" due to Tony's health - not the cost of the product. Tony sold all of his tachs that he could make. I was fortunate to get one over a year ago and, after years of screwing around with "lesser priced units", was not at all upset with paying him $100.00 for mine.

I got the Hangar 9 Tach/voltmeter. In comparing accuracy between buddies at the field, they were consistent with each other and within 200 rpms of one or two others that were there.

Last 3 or 4 years I've used the Globee, before that had a Hobbico which worked great for many years,I had to replace the batteries and it never worked correctly after.

The Powerflite Battery people have picked up the line, there is a thread in the Glow Engines forum where they made an announcement to this effect. It is "Using Digital Tachs" or something..I'm sure a search will turn it up.
