120 glow and 26cc gas
Hello... I would like your opinions on this ...
I'm building a TF Sea Fury, from the posts herre on RCU this plane needs quite a bit of nose weight, like a pound. I was thinking of putting the Evolution 26cc gas engine instead of an OS or Saito 120. The gas engine weighs a bit more than the glow and lots more power. My concern is if this is too much for the airframe to handle. And I would like to get my hands on a gas engine for the first time, am I correct for sayin that gas engines are alot cleaner than glow? The dimensions of the 2 engines are about the same. Let me know what you guys think. btw, is there a smaller sized gas engine available? |

it'll take it. just use a little more epoxy around the firewall. it's an awsome kit even better flyer. If your going gas, try planning ahead and get the fuel tank around the CG. if your using the scale sized gear there is a huge weight shift and put the fuel at the CG will make this issue less of an issue.

Got several planes in the 1.20 size and I have successfully interchanged the OS 1.20 FS with the Super Tigre G2300, and the MVVS 26cc. Both the Super Tigre and Mvvs use larger props than the OS. The Mvvs is a bit heavier due to carb, ignition and battery, but the added weight is a plus in many applications.

after writing this post i came across the G-20 ... what a perfect fit. horizon hobby doenst have it till mid may ... thats quite a wait. Im not familiar with gas engines, the G-20 has electronic ignition ... umm does that mean it needs a battery for ignition?

There's no information on what EI is being used on the G-20 on Zenoah's web site. My C H electronic ignition for my A M 5.8 EI uses a 1200 ma 4.8 volts battery. Hope this helps Clarence |

After searching for TF Sea Fury the only one I found is a .61 to .90-size airplane. My opinion is that you should not put a gas engine in an airframe designed for a .60 to .90 engine.

I didnt read how much this TF sea fury is going to weigh! 12-14 pounds?

check out the Mvvs 1.6 gasser, it will be perfect match. The Mvvs prop recommendation is in the 17-18 inch dia. range, but this should not cause you much of a problem.

The manual said 10-12 lbs but it was monokoted and equiped with an OS 91. If I put a 120 sized engine and glass it, I guess it would come out to be 12+ lbs. I'm just curious about what all you guys think before ordering the engine. With the G-20 coming out soon, I dont think there would be much problems with a gas engine that size. The reasons that I considered a gas engine are ... extra nose weight, a bit more powerful... I doubt I would need the extra power but its nice to have, and I would like to give gas a try, and cleaner maybe?
About mvvs, i cant really find much info on these engines and my hobby store doesnt carry this brand. |

A 1.20 would haul that alright, If proped right even better, But I agree with the gasser if you need nose weight make it usable weight! Get the gasser!
But thats my opinion! |
