prop to hover
I have a Great Plane Extra 300 size 40. plane. I have a Super Tiger 45 with a 10/6 prop on it. The plane will not hover. I would like to get it to hover and would like some input on how to do it. I have not weighted the plane yet but I will. I hope someone can tell me if I only need a bigger prop or if I need different engine as well.

Thanks, Matt

RE: prop to hover
What does the plane weigh? You may or may not have enough power....Try an 11X4 or even a 12X4 prop.

What do you mean when you say you "haven't weighted the plane yet"?

I hope you are saying you haven't checked the balance closely and moved the C of G back to the limit.

RE: prop to hover
Hovering is all about power to weight ratio, and running a large enough prop for the thrust you need. You definitely need a bigger (diameter, maybe pitch, too) prop, but to spin the bigger prop fast enough for the needed thrust,, and have the throttle response, you need a bigger engine. Something in the .60 range should do it, but really need to know the weight of your plane. I figure a .40-size is in the 4-1/2 to 5 pound range.
