Do I need to remove all the old covering?
 

I am in the process of fixing some damage on my tower trainer. I had to remove a lot of the covering so I could fix the parts that needed it. Since I had to do that I decided to start ripping off all the old cover I could. I have never covered a plane before and was wondering if I have to remove every bit of the old covering before trying to recover it? If so how do I get all of it off? I did a search but couldnt find what I needed, feel free to just link me to a post if this has already been answered.

IT probably has been posted but I don't know where.
You should remove all the old covering, if you don't it can show through sometimes or may not seal well later. If you have a heat gun you can use heat ( sparingly ) to loosen any covering that is stuck. If it won't come off with heat you will have to scrap it off ( carefully ) or sand it off. I won't suggest any chemicals as they might keep the new covering from sticking.
If you have any oil soaking, you need to take care of that also. There are a lot of post dealing with this, they refer to K2r, kitty litter and baking soda for a few. Good Luck !! ENJOY !!! RED

Red's advice is sound, but since it's a trainer and may require further patching in the future, I wouldn't worry too much about looks. Just be sure the covering that overlaps is completely oil-free. Won't hurt to lightly sand the overlapped old covering.

Thanks, I decided to use my Black & Decker Mouse and sand all the old covering off. By the way, that little mouse works great for removing all the old covering. Now I just have to decide what colors I want to redo it in. Thanks:)

Kenny : A good way to decide on a color scheme is to get an outline drawing of your plane or at least close and then get some colored pencils or crayons and just start making designs till you find one you like. As I have stated in other post, I don't like using someone elses design. ENJOY !!! RED
