gluing canopy to hatch?
 

i have a Funtana 90 and i want to know if it makes a difference if i use the canopy glue or can i use epoxy or some other kind of glue?..thanx

You can use any glue you think will work. However........

Canopy glue is great stuff and worth using for a number of reasons.
It's about the best and easiest to use of all the glues. Epoxy is messy and is not easy to apply without it smearing something up. And once it's cured repairs are tough. And did I mention that it's not easy to apply cleanly.

Canopy glue can be put on in about any amount. When it dries it's as clear as the canopy so it's not going to screw up the canopy. And "too much" just turns clear and is almost invisible. And I usually put too much on, on purpose. Whatever squishes out is dead easy to wipe off with a wet paper towel. Try that with epoxy. OK, you can wipe epoxy off with alcohol. But it doesn't wipe without a battle, and leave any behind? and not get any on your hands (and you're always going to touch the airplane if you get any on your hand) Hey.... canopy glue

You actually can remove a canopy that's been glued on with canopy glue. It ain't easy 'cause the glue holds good, but you're not going to have to grind it off and it's not going to guarantee a worthless canopy in pieces like ones epoxied on.

Does it make a difference? Yeah
And the differences are worth all the $3 or $4 the canopy glue costs.

I agree, tried all kinds of things over the yrs and SUPER RC Z 56 is the way to go.

I've given up gluing my canopies on....instead I screw them on with 3-5 button head screws....looks like rivets!

Awww jeez, don't do that!!!

The canopy glue is so very easy to do a good job. If the canopy fits good enough that screws hold it flat, then canopy glue would take about a minute to glue and a minute to wipe the excess with a wet paper towel. The first ARF I did had holes predrilled in the canopy for screws. I used them to position and hold the canopy while the glue dried. It worked like a charm.

Screws let crud into the canopy. No big deal on an electric, but ugly on a glowfuel. They weaken the canopy, not strengthen it. And they don't allow the canopy to stiffen the overall structure. A glued canopy actually adds strength to the fuselage. Not a big deal, but a glued canopy is also lots stronger itself. I can turn my airplanes over and rest them on the canopy and not worry about the canopy buckling or the screws causing rips. And no crud under the "glass".

And with the new canopy glue and a wet paper towel, almost anybody can do a professional looking job.

I also use canopy glue for all my common canopies. Unfortunately canopy glue can not be used for PVC-canopies. I had to make my SBD canopies from PVC because macrolon or all that other canopy stuff was not available. PVC needs CA, special PVC-glue or screws.
