Wright Bros. plane?
 

Does anyone have plans for the Wright bros. plane? Is there a company that makes a kit? If I build one from scratch should it be electric or gas? I found a plastic model of the plane for reference.

That would be an EXCELLENT subject for an RC project, especially with centennial coming up.

As far as engine, it would depend on size. Personally, I'd go with a w/s of about 50-60" and put a small four-stroke in it. And you've GOT to use functional belt drive/pulley, etc.

My LHS has one hanging in their store. It's wood and a good size wingspan.

I don't know anything else about it. The shop is Sunrise Hobbies in Seaford Long Island. 516-783-4343. The owners name is Matt.

Look in the trade magazines, there are a couple of companies that sell kits. (Three SeaBees?) I would build a couple of small gliders, and perhaps a semi-scale electric first, as I think you'll have your hands full with this one. Not sure of any plans, but at any rate, good luck!

The following picture is my half finshed Dare Wright Flyer - it's electric and flies well using two GWS IPS-DXA (the power system from the Picostick/Tiger Moth).

They're showing kits and plans for 1/12, 1/6, 1/4 scale and even 1/3 scale (by Special Order) for the Wright Flyer.

I am just finishing up the Dare Kit 1909. The crystal just came in so I should be trying it out in a couple of days. I really enjoyed this kit and access to the designer is easy. I spoke with him and e-mailed him also. This is the first kit I've been afraid to fly. I doped and tissued it. I can show you pics if you'd like.

Flew the 1909 Flyer on Saturday night. It flew much better than i thought it would. It looked great in the air! I had an issue with the new batteries not being fully charged but that was my fault. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to fly one this centennial year. I will be looking into lighter battery alternatives as light is key for this model. It needs to be landed with some power on.
