Solartex Question

I just purchased a roll of Solartex Natural. This may seem like a stupid question but I don't the answer so going to ask any way. The instructions that came with it indicates it is a pre-painted material, but if it is natural does it really have paint on it? Certainly it is natural (white) color. But has it been clear coated or something to that effect?

RE: Solartex Question

I don't think it has been coated. I suspect the instructions are generic for all the different colors they make. I have painted the natural stuff with Rustoleum and nitrate/butyrate dope and adhesion was good.

Thanks Chuck. That is exactly what I was hoping for.

Yes, it has been coated and is fuel proof as you received it.

RE: Solartex Question

I cover all my planes with it and then prime and paint them with Rustoleum automotive primer and paint. Get the rust preventative stuff, it is pretty much fuel proof. I always clear coat them with Automotive clear that I get at the local body shop repair supplier. This makes them 100% fuel proof! Put any decals or pin-stripping on before the clear and then they will never come off.

Good Luck,

Gibbs

OldScaleGuy,

Her are a few pictures of my CG Super Chipmunk painted with this method. The finish comes out smooth as glass.

Gibbs.
