Engine Down Thrust

When flying my Sig Wonder, I need quite a bit of down elevator to fly level. I was just wondering if I should add some down thrust to the motor and if so, how do I determine how much I need?

RE: Engine Down Thrust

Does the amount of down elevator needed changes with from WOT to idle?
If yes, then up/down thrust is needed.

RE: Engine Down Thrust

I have only flown it twice, but it seems like it was ok to land. I fly WOT all the time, so I know that was good. I'll fly it some more and see how it is.

RE: Engine Down Thrust

mnrcaerobat,

Try this. Fly your plane horizontally until it gets right in fornt of you and pull it straight up into a vertical attitude. TRhen take your hands off the sticks and see which way the plane pulls. If it pulls towards the bottom of the plane, then it does need down thrust. In case you don't know, the easiest way to change the thrust on your motor is to add a thin washer between the motor mount and the firewall, depending on which way you want the plane to go. But remember this, make the changes gradually. Then try the above maneuver after you make the change. You're probably not going to need a very thick washer to correct the problem.

Fly safe and have fun!!!:D:D

mnrcaerobat,

I apologize for any confusion, but my last post in response to your question is backwards from what it should be..
If the plane pulls toward the bottom of the fuse, it has too much down thrust.

Fly safe and have fun!!!:D:D
