AX 55 output ps vs. bhp
 

On the ax 55 they (OS) use the ancrnem "ps" instead of bhp. Does anyone know what "PS" stands for, and is there a formula to transalate ps to bhp? And if so what is it. Thanks

"Per Square . . ." - Somethings per square something else.

"Powder of Squid" - amount of energy consumed by one sucker on the Kraeken's tentacle in sucking one hapless seaman's face clean off.

You got me. Interesting that Tower has arived at 1.75 of them, whatever they are. I assume it is standing horsepower in the interest of comparisons, else it would be meaningless.

It's a worldwide standard originating in Germany known as Pferde Starke, conventionally contracted to PS. It's in common use worldwide in countries where the metric standard predominates. ie: The world outside the USA. The arithmetical relationship to HP is so close, for all practical usage at the minuscule figures we're talking with our model engines, you can treat PS effectively as the close approximate equivalent HP. eg: 100PS = 98.6HP, or taking the example of an O.S. 46AX , 1.65PS = 1.627HP which when rounded up to 2 figures, becomes 1.63HP.

To convert PS to HP, multiply by 0.9863

Strange, why not use watts as a metric unit of power. Watts was even invented by the same person as HP was.

Heck, why should the nitro engines be rated by watts, since most all the bloody electric engine mfg's don't even use it, and they're selling motors where watts ratings would make some degree of sense!!!

Watts is not a rating of electrical power but just power.

Boy, that kind of smacks of: "since we didn't get the output we desired we'll switch the units of measure and maybe catch the unsuspecting public".

Can we next expect Honda to start putting their sticker mileage in "Arshins per Amphorae"?
