Small Spinners?
I need a source for a couple of 1 inch diameter spinners. The smallest I have found are 1 and 3/8 th inch. They are too big for the scale project I am going to build. It will be an electric powered twin and the scale spinners need to be 1 inch. or 25 MM.
Any suggestions? Thanks, |

All I know to do is get on the phone with TruTurn, or another spinner company, and ask if they can make them for you
http://www.truturn.com/contact_us.htm 30mm is the smallest listed on the web site |
RE: Small Spinners?
Jeez, I was afraid that would be the answer. I was hoping for some new old stock. I know they were available years ago but have not been able to score any.
Would you have any idea what they charge for a custom size? My funds for this plane are limited and I would hate to break the bank on the spinners and not be able to afford the motors. |
RE: Small Spinners?
I fear a pair of Tru-Turn spinners would weigh more than the airframe! Hobby Lobby has some small spinners but they are best found in the print version of their catalog. And, as always with electric power, the challenge will be to find out how to fit them to your motors and props.

Dave, You are so right. I use Tru-turn on my big stuff and the weight is definatley a concern on this small bird. The smallest spinners I found were for E-flight applications and even those were dependant on shaft size.
Thanks for the tip on Hobby Lobby, I wiil order their catalog. |
RE: Small Spinners?
This place lists a 29mm aluminum spinner
It's about 1 1/8" http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-291.html part PS29.. weight .26oz same one avaliable here http://www.nesail.com/detail.php?productID=4142 http://www.nesail.com/pictures/alum-spinners.jpg |
RE: Small Spinners?
Doooh! I have been to the maxxprod site many times checking out other stuff and it never dawned on me to check back for spinners. They have a lot of stuff that I can use on this plane.
Thanks for the info. |

perttime, I have not bought the motors yet but I plan on small can brushless units of 150 watt range. The shaft dia. will be in the 1/8 - 5/32 size.

ORIGINAL: wascamp small can brushless units of 150 watt range. The shaft dia. will be in the 1/8 - 5/32 size. - make a plug and form some plastic over it. - make a foam spinner (the most low tech way is to fix a rougly shaped piece of foam to your motor and use that as a lathe). Shaping the inside of the cone is probably the most difficult part. Then you glue the finished spinner to the back plate and hope not to break a prop. |

Brian, I looked into the prop nut solution. Dubro maks some the right size but unless I need the added weight for balance they are overkill.
You will not believe what happened today. We went in to Spokane to buy out a Home Depot, so I stopped by my LHS. Bingo, 1 inch plastic spinners for electric applications. The owner said they came from Hobby Lobby (who knew?). I almost chocked on the price, $ 5.49 each for a gram of cast plastic. Well, anyway, that problem is solved. Thanks to all who helped with this. I now have 2 of the hundred or so parts for this plane, heck it is starting to come together. One more thing. One of the great things about building a house for ones wife is that if you buy a lot of stuff at H.D. to finish the guest bathroom, she pays the toll and never questions why you need a new Ryobi scroll saw for the job. Let the balsa dust fly. HAHAHAHAHAHA |

When I would drive up from the Tri-Cities I'd go to B&B Hobbies near the corner of Francis and Nevada.
That was 20 years ago.. |

That's the same one. The boys took over from the dad. A great place to browse and buy. The place is literally stuffed with modelling goodies. These guys are modelers and fly everything you can think of. Most times when you go in one of the boys is building something on the counter. Not too many second generation hobby shops around these days. |
