nitro conversion mini edge 540?
im not that impressed with the performance of my mini edge 540 with its 400 brushless motor, 20 amp esc, 2100 mah lipo battery, and stock 12x6 prop. Is there an electric upgrade i should consider, or would it be feasible to convert to nitro power? What size glow engine and prop if it's a worth doing(for 3d) ? Keeping in mind, it has a 36" wingspan, and I do have all running equip. and experience.

RE: nitro conversion mini edge 540?
The only problem I see is that if it was built for electrics, it may not be sturdy enough to withstand the vibrations of a glow engine.
It is also probably not fuel-proofed, but that can always be done. With that short a wingspan, something in the .25 range would probably fly it well |

Did you ever make a nitro converted mini-edge? I am just finishing up one that I did. It has a Saito .30 four stroke. I can't wait to see what it does. I was just trying to find somebody else that had converted one.

Actually that is a bit smaller than a .25 sized. A .15 glow would be about right. Vibration shouldn't be a problem if you add a good firewall to the usually open structure for the electric motor mount.

Mine doesn't have a vibration problem, and has a full firewall. I just hope I can get it to balance properly. It should be fun with the Saito. Lots of power!

RE: nitro conversion mini edge 540?
I flew mine for the first time last weekend. It flew really good, but the wind was pretty high, so I didn't get to play with it much. I was just trying to keep from breaking it. I had to do some work on it afterward. I had to get some new wheels, and a new way to secure the wheel pants. Other than that, I think it is going to be a lot of fun. Good luck with yours.
