Tower 6XM Trainer
 

I just bought a Tower 6XM (appears to be a rebranded Futaba 6EX) to buddy-box with a neighbor who's learning and has the same radio. The steps shown in the users manual under trainer system include removing the crystal from the student (slave) transmitter in addition to having it's switch off. I'm not happy pulling the crystal every time we want to buddy-box together. This is not necessary with my Airtronics trainer system.

Is pulling the crystal a precaution against accidentally turning the slave xmitter on or does the trainer cable actually power up the RF portion of the slave transmitter along with it's encoder?
