SR71 blackbird

I had purchase a 46 size SR71 blackbird and had installed an OS 46 motor with a 10x8 APC prop. When I flew it and it flew like it needed a larger size engine. Should I change it out to an OS 50 or just change out the prop to a 10x6? Anyone out there wants to share there experience would really appreciate it.

You have to tell us a bit more about what you expect from this model. For everyone performance can feel diffrent.

What did this motor lack? Is it speed? Maneuverability? Not enough power for takeoff?

Changing a motor is a good idea but first I would try to find out what the .46 can handle in terms of switching prop size.

As far as your electric question, a 4130-7 with a 8S 4000mAh pack and a 10size prop will get that Jet moving, nice and quiet as they were meant to fly ;)

This may be a little too powerfull but then again Jets are meant to go fast.

If this model is in 5lb range the TowerPro 3520-7 motor with a 5S 4000mAh would also work great.

this model is very nice but the seller fails to mention the weight, can you tell us what it is? Engine and all.

You have posted this in the electric aircraft section. In the future you would be better off posting in the the other, fuel based aircraft section.

I am going to move it for you.

The total weight of the plane together with an O.S. 46 is about 5.5 lbs. As for taking off. It goes quite a ways down the runway before it starts to rotate and take off. I tried using a 10x8 and a 10x6 prop with the OS 46 motor. It flew slightly better with the 10x6 but still slugish. As for a larger prop. Well the way the jet is built it only allow props no larger that a 10 inches. So the idea of a larger prop isn't going to work. Thanks for the helpful tips.

If it is an LA series OS engine, they just don't have the same power as other engines of the same size. What type engine is it?

RE: SR71 blackbird

The engine is an O.S. 46 AX with a 10x6 prop. Flies okay, but just okay. My other warbirds (also 40 size) flys faster and better than the Blackbird with the same type of motor and prop.
