Standart Economic Servos.... Share your experience
 

Hello guys, whats is your experience with standart economic servos? I mean, I dont want to have any problems like, not centering, that develop vibrations, etc, etc

I use hi torque servos, Digital servos on my helis, etc..................But since I am helping a guy that does not want to spend to much.........I want to order for him the best at the inexpensive price:eek:

I am ordering from him a trainer Kadet LT 40 ARF, I going to lend him a Webra 50 with my own radio RX and Battery but I need to order servos for this airplanes since I dont have any.

So I was checking Tower hobbies and they have the following:

Tower Hobbies TS-53 Servo Standard U
Hitec HS-322HD Servo Deluxe Karbonite Gear Std U
Hitec HS-311 Servo Standard U
Hobbico CS-60 Servo Standard Sport U
Futaba S3003 Servo Standard

They will all be fine for a trainer. Some people do not like karbonite, though. They say it's brittle. I've never had one break, but my brother has had karbonite gears shatter on him. Might stay away from those, and you don't need that kind of servo on a trainer anyway. Get the 3003's and be done with it. You might shop around, though, since sometimes it's just about as cheap to buy a flight pack with battery, switch, and rx (and four servos), as it is to buy four servos. Not always, but you may find an entire flight pack for 20 or 30 bucks more, and then you wouldn't have to loan out one of your batteries and rx's.

Standard servos are better than most people give them credit for. You might not want them in a giant scale aerobatic plane of course but most .40 sized trainers and sport planes don't need anything more in my opinion. I've used both Futaba S-3304's and JR-ST47BB's with good luck. The digitals definitely center better but I doubt that would be of much benefit on a trainer.

I used only the standard servos in all my planes for the first ten years I was flying. Never had any problems with just .40 and .60 sized planes. I use Futaba and the standard servo then was the S-148. But these days I use some Hitec servos for specialized applications too.

You can also use the Futaba 3004 which is the ball bearing version of the 3003. I have been using these for years with no problems. Good Luck, Dave

For standard servos I use the Hitec HS-425BB. It runs around $15 each and has dual ball bearings with 52 oz. torque. A great all around servo.
