$125 a year for the whole family. Two flying fields for glow/gas plus and indoor and outdoor field for electrics. The club had to raise dues this last year to manage a funding shortfall but the two glo fields are wonderful. Elmendorf is flown year round and since it is at the end of an activ eairdrome with f-15 and soon f22 raptors we don't have a noise restriction. Moffit is a grass field with unlimited ceiling. Nice club, nice people. If we had more members we would have lower dues.

zero, zip, nothing, Just AMA costs. The field is in a state park. We do have a donation box and I throw some $ in from time to time and usually give a check for some amount once a year.

$60 a year. Plus AMA of course. Money well spent to have a club near by.

This topic gets revisited about once a year. In 2005 I made a spreadsheet of the responses, plus information from as many club websites as I could find. There were 28 responses, ranging from annual dues of:

Free (Weak Signals) (but no students, and you have to work the Toledo Show)

to

$300 (nonvoting membership in RC world in Orlando, where a voting membership is thousands.)

The average from my little survey was $60.11/year, the median was $36.

Five of the 28 in my list had annual dues in excess of $95.

Some clubs require "initiation" fees, or "one-time joining" fees from $20 to $150. Some clubs offered "Family" memberships at the same annual fee as (or a slightly higher fee than) the individual membership.

One club was buying the property. Another club had very low dues, and flew on public land.

Best wishes,
Dave Olson

$50 a year. Must have AMA to fly. Must have your butt at the field on Thursday to mow. Third one is ignored by all but 3 or 4 members. ;)

Club 1, 36/year. Ashphault runway, kitchen, modern restrooms, large covered pit area.

Club 2 25/yr. 2 flightlines (1 planks, 1 helis) modern restrooms and kitchen, covered pit area.

Both of which are 25 miles from the house, which means a entire weekend day.

Club 3 60/year, grass strip, minimal shade, bring your own chair and cooler and find a bush. 6 miles from the house so I can hit it after work or fly a few hours and be home on a weekend before the wife and kids are ready to do whatever. But theres surveyor stakes all over so its a ticking clock for how much longer we will be there.

While ~$60/yr or so is not to bad, factor in the AMA's $56 and your looking at ~$116/yr. Now, pretend that your a student somewhere or have a demanding job/family life and don't get to fly much. And don't forget that a third to half of the year is a write off due to weather. The cost per hour of flying time is actually fairly steep.

Example: flying once a month for 1 hour, 8 months a year = 8 hr/yr, $116/8hr = $14.50 every time you fly.

This unfortunate phenomena is what kept me from joining a club the whole 5 years I was at college. It's to bad really, as there were some killer weekends (weather wise) that I could of gone flying if only I had a membership somewhere... I had to fly at parks and schools and stuff which I WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!

Oh yea, two clubs within 30 miles: one is $25 the other is $75.

thats a good idea to have discounts for folks that can prove that they are still in school, but i just dont have the time to be as involved in the club like i want to, attend meetings reguarly/field matinence etc..plus its a 20 mile drive. maybe someday there will be a club down the street. (wishful thinkin')

If you only fly one hour per month, then it's time to find something else to do...[:o]

Thats what I did! But since I've graduated, I've started flying again... I just wanted to post a different viewpoint to all those saying that their "...club is such a good deal" and worth every penny etc.

$100 a year, plus AMA. Then there's the extra's, the guy next door gets drunk and shoots at the planes, the head "Field Marshal" yells at you for breaking the rules, before you take your plane out of your car. It's only 12 minutes from the house, so it's better that a hour plus drive to the next closest field. :D

$40 a year here, plus AMA. Theres another one closer to my house but they want like $150. Ours is grass but the other is paved. My planes would much rather eat grass. :D

Putting things in perspective, if I went and took the family out to go bowling and a McD's, I'd have over $50 dollars till it was all said and done. Then we'd all be getting fat, our fingers would hurt and we'd have to wear clown shoes for the privalege! No thanks, I'd rather smell like nitro.

AMA and $25.00 per year. Initiation is $25.00. Students are free until 18 years of age. Then, as long as they stay in school the membership votes yearly to wave membership fees until a student takes full time employment.
