Is RTV Glue the same as Siliconized Acrylic Caulk?
 

Hi,

On the instruction of the E-Flite 250 motor, it says use RTV glue to cement the carbon tube to the motor shaft. Someone told me that RTV glue is nothing more than siliconized acrylic caulk. So I went to a dollar store and get a tube. I cemented in the shaft and now I wonder if I made the right choice. If not, what is the solution? This is on a light weight park flyer. Thanks! DP

RTV stands for room temperature vulcanizing silicone. It's used a lot as a sealant. There are also RTV's sold as adhesives. In my opinion (this is JUST my opinion...), the ones sold as adhesives seem to be a little stickier out of the tube and are more firm once they cure. I buy it at the hardware store and use it for all sorts of stuff. I am no expert but I believe siliconized acrylic caulk is old-fashioned caulk with silicone added to it. I've used it around the house and it is a lot more flexible than regular old caulking. As for your application, who knows. The caulking may hold up fine. I would rather use something intended as an adhesive though. Again, just my opinion.
