Painting MonoKote?
 

What paint can be used on MonoKote-type of coverings?
I plan to use a airbrush, so the thinner/reducer needs to be compatable too.

ANY paint can be used on Monokote (or any film covering).

You need to use a Scotch Green scrubber and go over the Monokote until it has an EVEN, FROSTED appearance (be carful not to go through the film on ribs and other high points ). Then THOROUGHLY clean the surface TWICE with alcohol and use a clean rag EACH time. Then you can prime and paint. (If the paint is not fuel proof be sure to clear coat it ).

I figured (wrong) that many paints would etch, burn or otherwise mess up or weaken covering.

Any thoughts on using Testors Model Master Acryl paint?
Anyone know if its fuel proof? (I have not found much of anything that will eat the stuff after its dry)

If you are uncertain if a particular paint is fuel proof or not (same for clear coats ) do a test panel.

All a test panel is, is a piece of wood that is painted and then subjected to raw fuel and exhaust tests.

Raw fuel - pour some fuel from the jug on the paint. Wait a couple of hours, then clean it off with Windex (or your favorite cleaner ). You will know if it is raw fuel proof or not.

Exhaust - Provided the test panel has passed the raw fuel test, take the panel and put it in the exhaust stream of a running engine (about 6" - 8" from the muffler ) for about 8 - 10 minutes (one tank of fuel ). Let it sit for about an hour and then clean it. Again, you will know if it is fuel proof or not.
