Air retract line restrictor question.

I'm working on a KMP September Fury and it comes with spring air retracts. I have no idea who makes them. Anyway, I bought some Robart air restrictors so they wouldn't slap up too fast when they retract. Should I use one restrictor in the main feed line or should I use one in each line that goes to the seperate retracts? I don't have a pump yet to test this system and it's not going to be easy to change ones it's installed in the wing.

Spring Air Retracts are made by Spring Air, they are made in Melbourne, FL.
To restrict the air you can also put a wheel collar on the air line and tighten the screw, till you get the speed that you want. Below is the Contact info for Spring Air, and they are super nice and can answer all your questions.

Thanks for the reply but I guess I should have said spring air function as in uses air to retract and springs to extend. I have the restrictors already, I just don't know if I need one in the line before the T that goes to the seperate retracts or if I need two, one in each line after the T going to each retract.

Either way will work. I usually do as suggested and use a 1/8th inch wheel collar on the main line as it leaves the control valve. I like having access to it so that I can adjust it as needed. If you are going to use line restricors, I would also install it right after the contol valve befor the T. Putting them in the wing can create more places for a potential leak to happen which is tough to repair if a leak devolops. Good Luck, Dave

Sherpa FE/DavidAgar,

I would be concerned about the screw chewing into the line causing a leak but it evidently isn't happening for you. Did you do anything special to prevent that or is it just something that I shouldn't be concerned with?

I did not do anything to the set screw at all. I have never had it leak and it works really well as it allows me to adjust the actual movement time of the gear. Restrictors are great, but they once again only allow for the speed that they are set at and if that is to fast or slow then you have to change out the restrictor for a different size. Both work well, I just prefer the wheel collar. Good Luck, Dave

RE: Air retract line restrictor question.

I hadn't considered a wheel collar. Since I got this ARF I've replace most all the hardware that it came with due to poor quality. I just started replacing items on the retracts also and read a thread about the retract coming up too fast. I hope the retracts and the control valve last. I haven't upgraded them like everything else.

Thanks for the help.

rwright142: Insert a piece of brass tubing through the wheel collar around the air line tubing and you will not have to worry about the set screw cutting the tubing.
