satio 100
I was woundering what break in props did you guys use for this engine? And was woundering what kind of spiner nut would i need

RE: satio 100
Check out "welcome to club saito" under glow engines.

RE: satio 100
A 14x8 should be fine for both break in and flying.

RE: satio 100
HI,
I am currently running in a Saito 100 on a CG Ultimate Bipe. I am using an APC 14 x 8 with a Tru Turn spinner with the 8 x 1.5mm adapter nut. The prop seems to be well suited for this engine and the spinner fits well with no cutting/grinding required to clear the prop. This prop seems to pull the bipe along quite well even at half throttle. Regards Mark |
RE: satio 100
wait thats the .40 ultimate from great planes right im building one right now im going to be puting a .61 in it. the satio going into the u-can-do. How the areobatic on? can you hover with it? Thanks for the help!

RE: satio 100
Hi,
The Carl Goldberg Ultimate is the 54" wing span for .60 2 stroke and up. Not sure about the hovering with the 14 x 8. Maybe a 15 x 4? Anyone else able to comment on a better prop for it? Havn't pushed the engine too much as am running it in. Have seen the saito 100 on similar sized bipes and mono's with good hovering ability. Will wait until I have a few more tanks through it first. Regards Mark |

One good thing about the Saito is that the UCANDO gas tank is mounted over one inch too high in the fuse which floods out most other engines. (it can't be esaily moved without chopping the plane up) The Saito loves it there but make sure it's not hydrolocked before you put the electric starter on it. Good luck. |
RE: satio 100
Expo,
Sounds like the 15 x 4W is a good choice for the engine. Will give it a go on mine. From your post I take it that your Saito doesn't seem to suffer from the syphoning effect caused by the carb being below the center tank level. Might try this engine in a Top Flite Spit I am having syphoning trouble with an ASP .91FS I have fitted. |
RE: satio 100
i just got my saito today and was woundering what the breather nipple is? Thanks for the help
|
RE: satio 100
Out of that nipple will come all sorts of fuel, covering all sorts of firewall interiors....I use a SHORT piece of fuel tubing to vent out near the muffler's exhaust.

RE: satio 100
would a 15x4 be fine for break in?
|
RE: satio 100
Don't quote me on it but I believe a higher pitch prop, like a 14-8, would be better at breakin. When in doubt, read the owner's manual.
|
RE: satio 100
so any prop on the manual would be okay for break in
|
RE: satio 100
Break it in on a 14x8, or a 15x6 is ok too. What fuel are you running? I start and run them at about 1/3 to half throttle, with the glow ign off, REALLY rich till I get oil out the 8in breather line. After that set the needles, and keep the hi speed needle a little rich, and fly it! The days of running and running an engine, before flight, are really gone. after the first gallon or so start to lean it out on the top end, and fly the wings off it. Check valve lash after about 5 gallons. NEVER run it lean!!!
I run mine on an Ultra Stick 60, 15x6 prop, and Cool Power 15%. It will hover at just under half throttle, and climb strait up till out of sight. It was my first saito, since then I have gotten 5 more, I feel they are great little engine. |
RE: satio 100
ok thanks for the help so i can get 15x6. im going to use wild cat 15% for fuel
|
RE: satio 100
oh yah whats the 8in breather line
|
RE: satio 100
That just how long it is on my 100. I'd say put a line on the nipple and run it out of the plane, the crank case seems to blow out as much oil as the exhaust :D. BUT I always make sure oil is comming out of it, that means there is oil in the bottom end. Oh I almost forgot, depending on how you mount the engine, you might have to lube the rockers.
|
RE: satio 100
My 100 and 91 do not have a problem with the long breather tube...my 72 HATES it! Even a 3" line messes up the performance. Runs like junk....put the tube off and bingo! Nice engine!
|
RE: satio 100
WOW!! That's something, the 72 is one I don't have, I've got 82,91,100,150,180. I've never had any problems. What did the engine do with the tube? I just might be pulling mine off to see if there's a change. Thanks
|
RE: satio 100
With the tube on it runs rough and doesn't sound good at all...pull the tube off while running a it picks up some RPM's and sounds much better.

RE: satio 100
No I never weighed it, at a guess it's in the 6-7lbs range. Now you got me thinking, I'll try and come up with a scale and check it.
