6 Volt?
 

Im considering running a 6-v in my GP Super Giant Sportster,, seeing how Ive longer extentions running from the rear, do you think it necessary to go this route,,or stick with my original idea ,,,a 4.8v 1500 Mah,,NmH,, my 6volts are Nicads ..2400 MaH. Im using DS821 JR servos,and can be run with 6volts. If using 6 volts, will it wear out my servos faster or anything of that nature? What are the pluses and minusus of changing over. I also would not like to run a regulator if I dont have to. Im really brain dead when it comes to this stuff![sm=confused.gif]

You can easily switch to the 6v pack you have. It won't wear anything out. You'll get faster servo response and more torque.

BTW, I just noticed you're in Wilmington NC, my son just moved there.

G'day Tazz,
I would use the highest capacity you can, 6 volt 2400 Mah, you have digital servos, & may need the extra capacity.
Keep checking you battery voltage before you fly, & it should be fine.

6volt packs are the way to go. Better torque and faster servos. Its a super easy way to upgrade your servos without buying new ones. I run 6 volts on everything except in one plane that has futaba digis that dont like 6v.

Why dont your Futaba servos like the 6 volts,,,should this be something I should beware of on my servos?

There are a handful of special purpose digital servos that will get overworked on 6v. In helicopters we run a voltage step down to the tail rotor servos because the gyros update the servo at 270hz vice the usual 50hz they get from a receiver. RPM governors that run in high frame rate are the same way and they will wreck a servo that isn't rated for 6v (5 cell)

Using a regulated 6v system powered by a lipo it isn't a problem even for servos rated only 4.8 (high frame rate stuff is the exeception)

tazzz thats only on certain servos. You can check out servocity.com and lokk at their list of servos. It has the ones listed that are ok on 6volt and those that arent. The futabas that I have are the standard digis the 3151s.
