Can someone tell me the difference between a 18x6 and a
18x6-10 prop?

18x6 - 10 only means that you can use a 18x6 all the way to 18x10 prop... so like 18x6 or 18x8 or 18x9 or 18x10
In other words if you use a prop that's more pitch then "10"
Your probably over proped...
The 18 means 18 inches and the other number means the pitch of the prop ok.. L8ER

Rasko, I believe what they are talking about is a prop that is actually called a 18x6-10, its all in one prop. It is as hiroboz said!!!Daz...

18x6 prop is a constant pitch prop meaning that the pitch of the blade is 6".

18x6-10 prop has a progressive pitch meaning that it is 6" at the hub progressing to 10 inches at the tip.

Ever notice how an APC prop blade has a hump on the top of blade at the hub area? This is to get the constant pitch. Even though the APC blades are constant pitch there is more of an angle at the hub for the same pitch. MMM I thought different... on prop that they recomemded for the one plane I was working on was a 16-6 -10 I thought it was from a 16-6 to a 16 -10

VARIABLE PITCH PROPS ARE GENERALLY USED ON COWLED AIRCRAFT. A 16X6-10 SOUNDS LIKE A ZENOAH G-23 OR COMPARABLE SIZE ENGINE. THIS SIZE PROP WOULD WORK JUST FINE ON A 1/5 SCALE WACO. WITH A BIG RADIAL COWL, THE 6 PITCH PASSES BY THE COWL OUTWARD AND GRADUALLY INCREASES TO 10 PITCH AT THE TIP. THIS IS A VERY EFFICIENT PROP FOR THIS CONFIGURATION. HENSE THE 16X6-10 PROP. THIS EFFECT IS MINIMAL ON 60 SIZE AIRCRAFT. YOU GENERALLY WONT FIND MULTIPITCH PROPS IN 14 INCH AND SMALLER.

on props? is there a chart that tells thrust for props on size,pitch and rpm ?

Never heard of a chart concerning that.
Theoretically if the prop was 100% efficient didn't slip and was 10 pitch it would screw itself through the air 10 inches every revolution.

Hi Steve,

The 18x6-10 prop can mean one of 2 things. Eithter way it is a variable pitch prop. It can be that at the root it has a 6 pitch and as the pitch travels down the blade it becomes a 10. It can also be the opposite of that.....10 at the root and 6 at the tip. The manufacturer determines this. Sometimes the manufacturers do this due to the inefficiency at the root.
