? On hovering, engine mont
1 Attachment(s)
I am building a scrash built PITTS S2S, 52" wing and instaling a O.S. 91 fx engine. I intend to get into hovering with this plane and I need some addvice on how to set up my motor, the plans I have show a straight motor mont set up, is it bether to have the engine with right thrust seting or straight for hovering, the engine is set on it's side becaus of the pitts muffler coming through the bottom of the cowle
Thanks! I am including a pic of the plane I am building. |
hovering
A short coupled biplane is probably not the best choice to learn to hover with. A funfly with a long tail moment would work better. As far as the offset it is there to compensate for the P factor, which is more pronounced in a short coupled plane.

Thanks Joe, I also have a SIG FAZER with a .46 Thunder Tiger, is this a good plane to hover with?

hover
Although the fazer is pretty short coupled it is a great plane to learn to hover with. Be sure your engine is completly reliable. Balance the plane at the rear of the CG envelope, have some pretty extreme throws on your elevator & rudder. Get a little altitude while you are learning (its actually easier to hover closer & lower) but for now its safer with some height. Point the nose up & use the rudder & elevator to steady the plane. Good luck

Middle of the back right at the C.G. would work best for hovering. That's why helicopters put them on top.
