Pull/Pull cables in plastic tubes
 

Hi Guys,
I am wanting to run pull/pull cables to my rudder and tail wheel. I can easily run the cables direct to the tail wheel but I wll need to modify the routing to the rudder. Can you run the Dubro 4-40 coated pull/pull cables inside plastic control rod tubing safely?? This would make life alot easier for me if this works.

YES. I run mine thru the Sullivan yellow inner pushrod material

I think that would be my last resort. If the tubes are used to guide the cable you would be adding drag. Over the short term, probably not an issue. If the plane lasts a pretty long time it might wear into the tubing and get dragy. Just speculating, I've never done that before. In my opinion, I would look for another method.

I have been doing this for over 10 years and have never had a problem at all.

I will run the cables through the tubing and worst case I can replace the cable with kevlar later.

I have them in my big cub. Never a problem yet. If drag is a problem, use a little gun Teflon oil.

I've actually used goldenrods as pull-pull. Just be careful to not apply tension to the rods, they should both be just "slack" to avoid binding.

I use the plastic coated fishing leader from Bass Pro-its the same as what is supplied from the hobby types-actually its made by the same vendor-available in different diameters-the crimp connectors come in the package. Also LHS sells teflon tubing in various diameters that works really well for pull pull-never had a problem and its is really slick-almost no drag on the cables, I run it full length so as not to have a problem if you do have to rethread the cables.

I reworked an arf for a friend that had the short lengths of tubing in fuse and said some really ugly words trying to get that pull pull rethreaded the full length of fuse.

I have never run them completely down the tubes but I have used pieces of tubing on one of the formers to make a slight turn. I havent had any problems with this so far.

There's no need to have the tubes run the full length of the cables. Just the points where the direction changes, or part-way along the run to keep whipping down.

I have used nylon tube to guide the pull-pull for years, one model now 12 years old. I use braided stainless steel nylon clad fishing line for the cords and no problem ever. I like the tubing to be full length as it will allow me to easily string new line should I ever have to and it prevents any dirt or foreiegn objects that might get in the area from causing any problems. I also use the ferrules from the fishing supply counter for the crimps. Small, neat and reliable.

I also use the nylon coated steel leader wire. I bought a kit from walmart for a few bucks and its good for a bunch of pull pulls.
