Wall charger to trickle charger

Didn't someone make an adapter that you plug your wall charger into that made it a trickle charger ?

Yah, Ace. I have a couple myself. No idea if they still sell them.

But, Why? I stopped using them and went to Red's Battery Clinic website, where he points out an equivalent way to keep the charge topped off - just get a 24 hr timer, plug the wallwarts into it, and let it charge an hour a day.

Good luck,
Dave Olson

I have one of these and I love it. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&P=SM&I=LXHS78 I plugged a power strip into it and than plugged 6 wall warts into that. Works great!

Be cautious in using trickle charge on NiMh as that is a sure way to lower their life span. Not so critical on NiCads but the suggestion to use Red's timer method is much superior to a trickle charge.

I'll second the TME Auto Trickle Adapter suggested by Danh4, but even better is their

[link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&P=SM&I=LXHS77]TME ChargeMinder[/link] for only 5 bucks more.

You can select different charge times up to 16 hrs before going into trickle, so it's also good for drills and such whose chargers give out a faster charge.

I've been using these on my Nimhs and haven't seen a problem.

Another vote for Red's timer method. Safe, inexpensive, very kind to your batteries, and you can control how much charge you apply.

Dan,
I also have this unit and USED to use it until I found my batteries did not charge up completely. Now it could be the batteries were not that good to start out with or the unit inself had a problem but I quit using it. After reading this tread, I will check it out and see if works with new batter packs I have. One question about this unit, I can't remember if it was suppose to charge your battery packs then to to trickle or if you had to charge your batter packs first the standard way then connect them to this unit to hold a charge? I like the 24hr timer method and I have more of those cheap units around the house then I can shake a stick at.

RE: Wall charger to trickle charger

I believe the Lil Trickler merely places a half-wave rectifier in the AC line. This is a clever idea, but it gives little control of the trickle rate, and I believe the trickle rate will vary depending upon the transient characteristics of the wall wart. When I first saw a Lil Trickler I thought it would be a fire hazard, but I understand now this is probably not the case as long as you use a wall wart with UL approval. Don't plug something other than a UL approved wall wart into a Lil Trickler. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
