Any decent clear coverings?????
 

Hey all.
I'm trying to find a covering for my SSE that is actually clear, not semi transparent.
Or at least something that is as close to clear as I can get.

Was looking at Monokote or Ultracote (covering films are a tad limited this side of the pond) but pictures don't do them justice.
Any first hand experience??

Monokote is quite clear, Ultracote is more like frosted glass or waxed paper. You can remove the coloring and adhesive with acetone over an area on most of the colored films and have a clear unfrosted area if all else fails.

I haven't a clue what an SSE is but I have read (on RCU) that DOCULAM laminating film is very good and can also be painted.

I have not used it, cannot find rolls of the film in UK only laminating pockets. Note, it is totally transparent.

I use a lot of Monocoat brand tinted transparents as well as clear and I love them. The clear is particularly useful for windows and a cutout opaque over the top. Doing a kit that may have heavy plastic for side windows I always substitute clear or tintined monocoat.

applying 1/2 or 3/4 oz fiberglass cloth with minwax clear polycrilic would leave your craftsmanship beautifully exposed. but i would check for fuel compatibility i can't remember if the polycrilic is fuel proof. since i paint after glassing i add a fuel proof clear coat afterwards.

Hi Sean,

Agree with Rodney. Monokote clear is the way to go.

I have a roll and use it a lot to patch up small punctures in covering. It's clear enough that the colour below comes through OK.

Gonna have to build neatly though!

Polycrilic is not fuelproof!

I like Ultrakote tranparent. The Monokote is so stiff and feels brittle.

actually there are a number (apparently) of polycrilics that are fuel proof. this coming from people who are reporting actual usage. i think Deft poly was one brand mentioned.

Unfortunately, Ultracote is NOT transparent, sort of a milky fuzzy white or more like frosted glassdefinately not tranparent.
