muffler and needle valve extensions
 

i have an Os Fs30 in a GP Taylorcraft and i need an extension for both. The muffler to get the exhaust out of the cowling and the wire I have for the needle valve is so long that it vibrates all over the place. Help!

How about cutting the wire so its a bit shorter? this should make it move less or cut an old allan key

For the muffler could you use a piece of tune pipe coupler as an extension?

thanx for the info guys. I have already shortened the needle valve extension with no luck. It is as short as it could be and still be accesible from outside the cowling. As far as the muffler is concerned, I cannot seem to find parts compatible with the OS fS30 motor.

With the needle valve extension, do you have to leave it in place? Once an engine is broken in I rarely touch the needles. On closed cowls I will generally drill a tiny hole in the cowl in order to fit the extension in to make an adjustment but I dont leave it on permanently. I think it looks better too bc its one less thing sticking out of your cowl.

Why wont a standard exhaust deflector work on the muffler?

Thats a great idea for the needle valve. It just makes me feel better if I can adjust the needle valve if i have to, which you are right isnt that often. As far as the muffler goes it just isnt long enough to exit the cowling. So as it stands now it is blowing exhaust all over the inside of the cowling and making a real mess of things.

a short piece of 2/56 threaded rod can be iinserted in the needle valve, then a piece of inner golden rod can be used to make it longer. Dubro Exhaust deflector for the muffler.

Thanks for all the info guys. What I ended up doing was just shortening the needle valve so it completely inside the cowling. Access is now with needle nose pliers. Not ideal but it works. When the wire extension was long enough to stick out of the cowling it vibrated so much that it would rotate. What I did with the muffler was just to put a piece of fuel tubing onto the end. The exhaust deflectors I found were to big in diameter to fit the little muffler on the FS30.
