Hi, I have been trying to find a good place online to buy balsa sticks and sheeting 48" or longer I can only find 36" pieces.

Balsa usa too. Bought some 48" stock last month. Just be patient with their user interface, its pretty slow.

Depends upon your needs but I got a bunch at BALSADEPOT recently. The stuff from Mass. came in crunched and split up. Same as a few others have noted to me. Depends upon if you are a distant or local customer I think.

RE: Trying to find 48" Balsa wood

I saw an article in Model Airplane News a few years ago describing how to splice wood stock together to make longer pieces. I've used it a few times with success, you can give it a shot and save on ordering wood and just buy normal lengths from your LHS.

A few tips I remember from the article.
-Try to position the joint/splice where theres another structural assembly to support it (i.e. spar splice on a rib, longeron splice on a former)
-The total length of the splice should be approximately 8 times the width of the pieces you are splicing.

Since the post was asking where he could get 48inch long sheets. what you stated has me flabbergasted. length of splice 8x the width. That would mean if I were spliceing a 3 inch wide sheet the splice would be 24 inches?

Yeah! That really only works for sticks. (1/4w - 2" splice) Even then, if you can get 48" stock, why not. Everything I buy is 48".

Ted, the initial post also asked about sticks, and as Edwin stated, splicing works mainly for sticks. I should have been clearer.
