battery + voltage regulator question ?

hello eveyone,

just a quick question for you , which battery will i get more flight time from = a 4.8 volt 2400 mah pack or a 6.0 volt 2400 mah pack using a voltage regulator that delivers a constant 5.0 volts ?

reason im asking is more just curiosity than anything but if the 6 volt will give more flight time than the 4.8 volt it might be worth doing.

thanks in advance for any and all info :D also i will be gone untill sunday afternoon so if i dont respond right away dont shoot me ;)

RE: battery + voltage regulator question ?

It would be close and not worth the complexity. A 6v pack is going to give you about 5 percent less flight time than a 4.8v pack all things being equal, I would think a linear regulator thats disappating heat would be even less and a switching regulator.....who knows, it would probably be so close you couldn't tell the difference.

RE: battery + voltage regulator question ?

With barracuda... My semi-educated guess is the 4.8 pack will deliver more flight time. But the diff will be very small.

My logic...

The 4.8 pack will start at a voltage higher than 5.0V, but will quickly drop below that as it hits it's nominal voltage of 4.8V. Hence, it will use less current than a constant 5V source over the course of the discharge cycle. In addition, there will be some losses due to the regulator on the 6V/5V regulated setup.
