Bipe Fever???

ok guys, it's like this!
I have completed building my Super Skybolt and it's waiting in the garage for a nice day to fly. (hopefully this weekend)
I have yet to fly a bipe and was wondering if there is such a thing as bipe fever?
Will I ever go back to a monoplane after flying a biplane?
Should I put for sale signs on the Cessna182, Pizzaz,Cherokee,Ninja etc?
Any bidders ? LOL

What do you guys think?

i think you will like and keep all of those...when ya fly your bipe remember they do not glide much...lotsa drag there so keep the power up till yur at threshold then chop it. they come down like a rock with no power but you will have a ball flyin it. let us know how it goes for you... :)

Bipe Fever???

Sorry, but I really have to disagree with Tinman here.

Once you fly that bipe all is lost as far as those other planes go, so you might just as well send them to me now and be done with it. :D

Bipe Fever???

Hi
i have also just flown my first bipe. 48" Panic. weighs 6lbs with a .91 2st. it fantastic, i cant stop recommending it, extremely stable when you want it to be. Any way your kinder right about bipe not gliding depends what you compare it to and what prop you use ie, low or high pitch and also how it balanced. I would say thou that it falls at a good rate when landing doesn't want to fall out of the sky but come down at a controlled rate. That how mine flies but obviously the skybolt could be totaly different.
There is such a thing as bipe fever as they look so good in the air.
Although its nice to have a change. so buy a different bipe then you can have a change when you want it.

DBCherry:
I flew the bipe for the first time Saturday in between rain showers.
What a BLAST!!!
What is your address so I can send my other planes?
BTW: there is a $500.00 shipping charge for each aircraft, paid in advance!!
How many did you want?
LOL

Bipe Fever???

DB........LOL
I'm on vacation all next week. The boss (wife) just informed me that we have a "pay to see model aircraft" policy.
Seems as though the neighbors are peeking around, so she charges $1000.00 per aircraft. I'm sure I can convince her to give you a discount. ;)
BTW: Her Avistar is NOT for sale!!
LMAO

I have a biplane addiction too...the funny thing is only more biplanes help the problem... they even call me Biplane Dave

Bipe Fever???

I am also a bipe freek , , only problem is not only do you have to build two wings instead of one , but it takes longer at field to put together , Wait till you get to the type with functional flying wires , i;e WW1 & 1930's era, they take for ever it seems , worth it though I think .

I have a '79 Chevy van that hauls bipes in one piece :-) The planes cost more than the van...

Bipe Fever???

Hi Guys

I am redoing an old bip from Airtonics. It's called the Arco Star. Heard of it? It was from late 60's to early 70's. It was a very ugly duckling when I brought it home. I stripped it to the bone and it started to look good. I had to replace lots of wood because of all the hanger rash and sanding I had to do. It had 5 layers of color on it! It has a 50 1/2" wing span. I put a 61FX in it. Its supposed to come in at 7lbs but mine will be 8lbs. It has such a long nose and with the weight of the engine and muffler, I had add 8oz of lead to the tail.

If you know this plane, I need to find the balance point.

I will be covering it in the next day or so. It will be my first biplane too.

Bipe Fever???

Hurri:
One very nice thing about the Super Skybolt is the wing and strut mounting.
I leave the struts and slave pushrods (for the ailerons) attached to the bottom wing.
When I get to the field, I bolt on the bottom wing, insert the slide in struts, slide on the top wing and lock it, and attach the slave pushrods to the upper ailerons...takes less time to do it than type it!!
No bolts or screws to lose and is very solid.

As a long time "sufferer" of "bipe fever", let me give you a brief peek into what your future may hold if you don't cure this problem by sending me your 'malady' (skybolt)

Bipe Fever???

Bipe fever, what is all about?

I own two Ultimates, one Pitts Special and one Stearman but cannot feel the fever, yet.
Oh, yes, I had a Staggerwing, a Skybolt, an Oldie Goldie and a couple of other sport bipes in the past but, again, cannot feel the fever.
Don't know what your guys are talking about.
