I used a friends digital level to set the incidence on my Smaragd. Where is a good source to buy a 6" or 8" digital level?

Zircon makes a digital level that is sold at Lowes. It has "bars" and not digits, but is sensitive enough to set incidences. It costs under $50.

This is the one you want: Macklanburg-Duncan 92346 SmartTool Module Only. There are a number of places to get one, but I got mine at Amazon:

The precision is incredible in tenths of a degree. I used my mine for the set-up on my 1/3 scale extra. At about $90.00, not cheap. But a quality tool. Does make the various incidence setting tools seem overpriced. Also actually works great for work around the house, but that's up to you.

I have a Robart incidence meter. In fact have used it for several years to build a number of airplanes. While an OK product, there's really no comparing to the digital level. Not only is the digital level more accurate, it can be used for many more things. I find that rarely a building session goes by that I'm not using mine for something. I use the audio signal (beeps when exactly zero degrees) when setting the CG. I used it the other day to get my right thrust at exactly 2 degrees. swk550 specifically asked about where to find a digital level -- and after a lot of shopping and now real world experience, I can fully recommend the SmartTool product.

This discussion is like many in our hobby. You can choose to put $100 digital servos in your most recent creation, or you can buy $15 economy servos. You can spend $150 for a weed wacker conversion, or you can spend over $1,000 for a purpose built twin. You can paint with $2 spray cans from Walmart, or you can spend $100 on the latest 2-part automotive polyurethane. One can argue they all do the same thing, which to some degree they all do. Sometimes, rather by choice or otherwise, the lowest price is the best choice. Others are willing to part with the extra green because they see the value for them.
