DIY servo extensions

I'd like to make some custom extensions and maybe save a buck or two. Any one make their own extensions? Where do you get the wire and connectors?

Hi,
just an fyi, but I just purchased from these guys http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=598074 and needed several of the 24 inch and 18 inch extentions and I couldnt make them for 3 bucks a piece. They use HD diameter wire, gold plated connectors , its silicone insulated and twisted to boot... and FREE SHIPPING also! They do sell the wire by itself ( I was thinking of doing the same as you by making my extentions, they sell the wire at $1.00 per foot), but then you would need to purchase the connectors and the crimping pliers also, so for me, this was the best way. If you need some longer pieces, I think they go up to 36 inches for $3.00 a pop, but probablly would make any length you requested if longer than that.
Hope this help you,
John

I just buy extentions from HobbyCity and pop off the plastic cases of the extention and the servo wire and solder the pins of the servo end to the metal connectors. Separate the wire slightly and slip on some heat shrink before soldering.  Never had a problem doing this way.

I got my initial supplies from Servo City.
There are other places I've seem - including Tower.
Use Google and do your shopping.
However, I'd check the link John McGowan posted.
The supplies and work are worth more than $3.
Good Luck,

Radical RC www.radicalrc.com sells supplies as well. I got wire, connectors and the crimping tool there. I wasted a few connectors before I got the process right.

Do get a good quality crimping tool. The reliability of your connections depends on it.

They have wire, ends, crimping tool, everything you need to make your own. I've been making my own for years.

Also, Custom Electronics have many of the items as well.

I normally don't bother trying to make extensions. I just splice in the wire and use the original plugs. Solder and heat shrink tube.
