Issue with Fuel Tank

The stopper on my sullivan fuel tank won't seal properly. After I screw everything it, the stopper still won't seat. I made sure not to over-tighten the screw, and it does not appear that the tank is cracked. Any ideas? Did I just get a dud?

Have you pulled the stopper assembly out of the tank and verified that it is working properly?? With it out of the tank tighten the screw and see if it is compressing the rubber stopper. You should see the stopper expand outward as you tighten the screw on it. If not, it may be time to replace the stopper with a new one.

Or your not tightening the screw enough. I really crank down on the screw.

make sure the stopper is sandwiched between two pieces of plastic or metal.....whatever your tank came with....and make sure the stopper, or bung, as it is called is for the tank you have....if it is all good...the screw need to be tightened more......then a good leak check under some water....seal all the lines with your finger or a stopper and blow through an open line....you don't want to see bubbles.......

I have been known to strip out that plastic stopper more then once bearing down on that screw. I know, my bad!!! I have ended up using a 4-40 hex screw with a nut behind the plastic when I have strong armed that poor little critter. A bit of CA to help hold that nut while I'm getting it started.
