Transfer tape for installing decals
The instructions for installing decals on my plane calls for using transfer tape. What is "transfer tape". Is this something specifically made for this purpose or can any clear household tape be used?

RE: Transfer tape for installing decals
Its a very low tack tape thats usually used for applying vinyl lettering. You can use masking tape.

You can also try that sticky stuff your better half has in the kitchen - "Cling" or something like that - looks like waxed paper but has a sticky side to it.

RE: Transfer tape for installing decals
What exactly are you trying to do? If you are installing sticky-backed decals, such as a large, single item like a national insignia forget the tape. Use a soap solution on the plane, slide the decal into position and then squeegee out the liquid, blot and allow to dry. But if you have a string of lettering which must be lifted, as a unit, from the vinyl sheet then you need a strip of tape to "transfer" the lettering. Transfer is a function here, not a type of material. You can use a low tack tape such as blue painter's tape.
