asp engine
just curious if anyone might know....my father accuired what appears to be an older model asp 1.08 2 stroke engine. but we are wondering. in the middle of the back plate on the back of the motor there is a nipple attached that looks just like a fuel nipple or exhaust nipple. we have never seen amotor that has this. and we are wondering if anyone might be able to tell us what it is for. we are thinking it might be some sort of vent for the crankcase like some 4 strokes have be we are unsure.

RE: asp engine
That nipple was for a perry fuel pump or simular and fuel tank pressure;)

RE: asp engine
so then can one just plus the nipple up and just use the engine lie the newer models running pressure to the tank from the muffler. it does appear to have a different muffler on it with a pressure nipple on it.

RE: asp engine
In the old day's we didn't use mufflers, just baffles and restrictors. Just plug it and forget it.

RE: asp engine
thank you very much for the info and advice!

RE: asp engine
On this engine, over leaning the idle needle to over improve the idle causes the idle needle to go too far into the HS needle, disrupting the fuel flow to the engine, requiring over richening of the HS needle. One fix for this problem is use of a pump to force more fuel through. Another fix is to not over lean the idle LS needle. Don't ask how I know this! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif

RE: asp engine
hey thank you for the great advice. my father was given this engine for nothing becasue the fellow that had it said he could never get it to run right. said it would run fine then all of a sudden just sputter and die. perhaps he was over leaning it like u say. we shall find out in the enar future i suppose. also would u or anyone be able to tell me what era or year this engine might be from. it looks like a relic.lol.
