install your wing retaining pins or you will have a day like i had today. i had a friends 2 year old son helping me get my 102 yak ready to fly today and it caused me to get out of my normal routine and i forgot to install the pins on the left wing. i'm sure you know what happened next, about 10 seconds into the first flight the wing slid out as far as the servo extension would let it and spin around causing the plane to spin to the ground. this is after loosing a new comp arf 2.6 meter extra last week due to a locked servo. this has not been my week and it looks like i'm out of the giant scale plane bussines for long time.
the QQ yak is the best flying plane i have had and as soon as i can afford to buy another i will, it will just be a while.

see you guys later i have to go and cry now.

Randy,

Really sorry to hear that. You lost your other plane too!? Geez, I can imagine what you are going through. Well, when I was at the Nall, I noticed Quique doesn't like to be helped or distracted when putting his planes together. I wanted to help him couple of times but he didn't let me for the same very reason. He said when he does it himself he knows what he's done on the plane! He said pilot needs to take full responsibility of his own plane and don't get distracted while assembling. Ever since seeing that I assemble my planes only by myself and try to avoid conversations at the same time as well. Sorry to hear about your loss.

you and QQ are right and i don't ever let anyone help me and i didn't want the help today, but i was trying to keep him from breaking anything if you know what i mean. still all my fault and i can't blame a 2 year old. i should have gone over every thing again before flying. looks like i'm flying glow for a while(that sucks). thanks for your kind words and all of the help you, wayne, and QQ have given.

We had an airshow at my club flying field yesterday and a Triton rep flew a 150cc Extra demo. Later I told him I was almost ready to fly my 100cc job and did he have any pointers. He told me to put all of my assembly pieces in a servo case and leave it in the plane. And don't fly till the box is empty... I'm sorry to hear of your loss, I guess this happens more than we know! Eric,

That's exactly my way. I have JR matchbox case that I keep all plane related items in there with a 3-32 allen wrench and two safety connectors for my ailerons. When my plane is assembled the case is empty.

I do the same thing, I have a blue hitec servo case I use. Everything goes in there when I take it apart - and everything goes in when I put it together.

Randy, I'm sorry for your loss That really sucks man. Hope you get another one soon!

As long as we are talking how we do it, I always leave the pins and the washers on the wing that way I can't install the wing until I take them off and put them on immediatly the rest is in a servo case like all you guys. Oh yeah the pins and washers are wired together and no I do not get interference wire is nylon coated fishing trace if it will stand the teeth of a Baracuda it will not wear away.

well guys i have decided to try to repair the yak and i ordered a new set of landing gear today. it's always a pleasure to talk to molly at QQ aircraft. i may order more parts just to get to talk to her again. i think i can make the yak fly again but it won't ever look as good again.

well guys the yak is going back together slowly. i have the engine box and fire wall repaired and all of the damage to the under belly fixed also the new landing gear installed. tonight i installed the engine and started repairing the cowl, it's going to look like hell but i'm going to fly it that way till i see if the engine stays on it. i've never done a repair like this i normaly just trash bag it and start over. i still have to reinstall the fuel tank and misc parts inside that came loose, repair a wing, and a few othe things and it will be time to start her up and see what shakes off hahaha!!! i would have been nice if i had just put the wing clips on.

ok guys i flew the 102 rebuilt yesterday and it stayed together. i tried every thing i could to make the engine box break and it held up. my new cowl came in today and i will have it installed in a couple days and she will be as good as new. man i missed that plane when it was down and it felt good to get it back in the air. the 1st few flights i was afraid that some thing would break but after awhile i was right back at home.

Randy, great that its back in the air
At least you damaged yours flying it. I fell down some steps at the field carrying the fuselage 1 hour to repair the plane. 2 1/2 weeks to heal my knees where I sacrificed my body to save the plane...and an eternal new fear of stairs.
