sergio,

1.40 with mezjlik 18x6, or Bolly 19x6 per earlier post, along with 30% cool power heli fuel, and you will be pleased.

Check www.centralhobbies.com for exhaust options. Best performance I've had on YS, except with tuned pipes, would be running them open header. Central has just a 'stinger pipe' or header that came stock on older YS 1.20s, just ask and they will know. They run 18.75, take up no room in cowl, and require only a small exit hole.

The hitec 5645 will be perfect as well. I used the JR 8411 at 155oz torque, so you are doing a little better!

Good luck!

Sergio,
I would agree with Arobatx, Central Hobbies do the NMP 'in-line' header which is great with the 'dust-bin' muffler also on their site. This setup is light and comes with rubber mounts. Also I have found on my 160DZ on 73" Yak it runs cooler and more powerfull than hatori muffler.

Ken, for initial flights I would recommend the 18x8 APC. I found the plane was a lot less locked in when I went to the 18x6, not sure if I like this prop. Easier to do the stalled manoeuvres and hovering - i guess it depends on your preferance. I will definately try Bolly 19x6, that sounds about perfect. It was funny the last day I was out flying, I was telling one guy the 18x6 didn't feel that nice but the 18x8 made the model a bit quick - he said 'then thats easy, get an APC 18x7 !!! Do you think they would make a couple for me ???

I have the older 72", and the OEM gear were pretty squishy....so with the 18x6, and a perfect landing, the gear would squish just enough that the prop tips would 'zip' our fabric runway. Quique sent me a thicker set of gear for the 72", and it was just right, at no point nice landing or not, that the tips would touch. I think the 19x6 would be fine too on the newer 73".

Ken G,

I have 3 1/8" clearance from the ground to the 19x6 prop tip when the plane is sitting on all 3 wheels. I have 1 1/4" clearance with the wings level. This is using the stock gear. I measured the clearance off a carpeted floor so they are just approximate measurements. I did buy taller CF landing gear because I thought I would need more clearance but after 27 flights and many touch and goes I have yet to have any problems. Almost all take offs and landings are 3 pointers anyway so I doubt I will ever use the taller gear on this plane. I do fly off a grass field and I keep the grass short as I dont care for green props.

REZA Do you know if the YS 140DZ would be okay to put in 73 YAK or the YS160DZ.Thanks SERGIO

Hi There,

I just flew mine with YS 1.4FZ and it had TONS of power, unlimited vertical! I think you will be happy with the 1.40. I live in Southern California about 700-800 ft altitude.

Thank you,
Reza

REZAGH, WHAT SIZE PROP DID YOU USE WITH THE YS140. I AM CONSIDERING A SWITCH AS I AM CURRENTLY USING A SAITO 180...I'M USING A PRO ZINGER 18X6 WITH THE SAITO @ 8500 RPM+/-

EMVIN,

I used APC 18x6W. It's a heavy prop! I have flown the plane only two times and engine is still breaking in. Next time I fly it, I will start checking out the prop performance and will let you know. A dear friend of mine built the plane for me and put the prop on it. BTW, Pro zinger should be great I'm sure. I will try different props if I noticed lack of performance.

Sergio,

I don't know the difference between the two engines! I am assuming the DZ might have a little more vibration and be as powerful as the FZ if not more!

Thank you,
Reza

My 1.40 sport spins the zinger pro 18x6 at 9100...the mezjlik 18x6 is even better, but the rpms go up and the recommended RPM for the 1.40 is to stay close to 9000. Thus the trials with the Bolly 19x6

I run the zinger 18x6 on my ys 140l. It performs much better than with an apc 18x6w. The ys 140 sport is the fz, the L is supercharged so a little more power and the dz is fuel injected with a little more power. I run a straight header off of my 140l and it seems to run better than with the stock muffler.

ditto on the header...I too run the straight header, same as on all of my YS 4-strokes, and though a bit louder, performance is much better. I saw the same thing with the APC 18x6 compared to the Zinger. The APC is just heavy...it will spool up and get there, but not as quickly as the Zinger, or any carbon equal.

I love the sound of the open header. It sounds like a real air show plane when you do rolling manuevers but I could see it being a problem if you have noise restrictions.

I've been eye ballin this plane for awhile......How would a OS 160 work out inthis Yak? Was think of putting in the Brillelli 40. But I heard that they are not long going to produce the 40 cc. The 46 cc will replace it. Thought the 46 might be over kill for the QQ Yak. I might add that if I go with gas ,it will be my first gas engine. Help me make a engine choice. Sewerdude

O.S. 160 is a perfect engine for our 73" yak actually for economic reasons this motor is the best choice and you will have unlimited vertical. Unlike the ys 140 you only have to run 15% nitro instead of running 30% heli. We are comming out with a new 50cc airplane and I would say for your first Gasser this airplane and a DA 50r would be your best choice.

I agree, the OS 1.60 is awesome! I run my one with a VP-30 Perry pump and have no mixture problems in any attitude. The OS 1.60 is surprisingly economical too.. The tank in the 73" is 16oz and after a 12 minute flight I still have 2/3 of a tank left. I'm only using 10% nitro too.

OS sells a pressure nipple that's used on the 1.60 FI engine. You can use this on the 1.60 FX but you'll need to drill out the top left hand backplate hole. I used the pressure nipple as a guide and stuffed some rag inside to catch the drill shavings.

Cheers
Jason.

Sewerdude,

The Brillelli 46cc GT would be a perfect match. The 46cc GT only weighs a few oz more than what the 40cc GT did. Brillelli is offering the EF YAK 54 and 46cc GT as a combo which is about the same size as the QQ YAK 54 73".

I've got an OS 1.60 ready to go in my QQ Yak. I've also got the Bisson BGX pitts muffler which also suits the OS 1.60. I've heard that it runs better on the BGX version rather than the purpose built one.

Has anyone used the BGX muffler on their OS 1.60 in the QQ 73" Yak? Does the cowl have to be trimmed much to fit the muffler?

I'm hoping for a "clean" installation, otherwise I'll go for the Slimline or OS 1.60 Bisson pitts.

Thanks,
Iain

The 1.60Dz will shake the wings off your Yak.. You may want to think about soft mounting the engine? I soft mounted my OS 1.60 FX using Dubro soft mounts.

I think you'll find that Quique uses the Central Hobbies NMP muffler on his YS 1.40.

Cheers
Jason.
