Default Fresh from China, New Somenized, 120" Yak-54

Dear All,

Just got an email from Quique and Wayne. For those of you who have been patiently waiting for this moment, here you go:-) Reza

We are in China and we have some exiting news to share. Wayne and I are very pleased to see the 120" project archiving our goal. We have a very nice airplane that will revolutionized the market. All changes and modifications we did over my composite Yak-54 that I've been flying during these past years has proven to be successful. I have flown our new Yak 120" and am extremely happy with its peformance.

We are going to introduce our new 120" Somenized Yak54 at this year Toledo's show. We will display the protoype at our booth that I test flew here in China. Also as soon as we come back, we will have our website updated with pictures and videos of my test flight in China.

I feel this airplane flew more solid and it did sound quieter than my composite Yak-54 due to less vibration, thanks to the rigid wood construction fuselage. The new scheme shows and present extremely well. Plane will be tuned pipe/canister ready and of course the choice of stock muffler.
Two piece cowl easy access to engine compartment. The airplane takes from 150cc up to 200cc and will balance well with lighter engines.

The test flights were done with DA150 (new out of the box engine), Mezjlik 30x12, Greeve pipes, JR8611A servos, Duralite 4,300 MHA Lithium Ion x 3, single JR2000 RX, 6" Tru-Turn spinner and the airplane did show an outstanding climb rate as you will see in our video by next week at our site www.qqaircraft.com .

The performance shown by this new airplane really makes me think that our prototype weighs same as my composite Yak-54 which I will check as soon as I get back home.

This is all we have from China we invite you all to check our web page www.qqaircraft.com and our RCU forum for exciting coming news about the 120" Somenized Yak54 and the Kimball-Somenzini Python 100 or visit us at our booth at Toledo Show. By then we will annouce 120" ARF Kit cost. As we been annoucing this aircraft will be available by late July/early August 2007. We will offer it as ARF version with two color scheme available, one as you see on the picture (Brio scheme) and a second scheme..........well.......a surprise. Also we will offer a limited quantity of ARC version for does that want to have their own color scheme.

Best Regards,

Quique and Wayne

Scott,

If people show enough interest in all white version at least 10 we can do that as well. I know we may have some ARC but white is a possiblity as well.

Thank you for your interest,
Reza

Thank you Maudib!

Quique and Wayne,

Great Job! I am extremely happy that after going through many prototypes and modification, you finally reached your goal. I am confident that whoever gets his hands on this beauty will enjoy it to the fullest.

And of course you know I need one of these This is the hottest plane I have seen to date! Now I have something to look forward to in near future for competition. I'd better get start savings for my components

Very nice indeed and thank you for always striving to put the best you can out there,

i sell rv's for a living( campers/travel trailers/motorhomes) so if any of you need one give me a call, i need to make some $$ for this plane.LOL! a few years ago i talked to a sales manager at a big car lot and he said that a salesman with high priced hobbies sold more cars to support them, now i know that he is right..

So when are you taking pre orders?? Either way I want one, if it's the ARC or all white one, assuming there are others that want a all white Yak. I agree with Maudib, the DA170 would be perfect.

There is also a weight comparison of his Composite version he competed with last year and his built up ARF...

http://www.qqaircraft.com/html/aircr...omparison.html

This also lists out the number of servos and other items used to outfit this beauty.

It's pretty amazing to know that you can get an ARF of this size and quality for $1500 less or more than a composite design at a similar weight.

As in the new 86", the design will feature "drop in" canister install... no messing with mounts, etc... it already built in.
It also features a 2 piece cowl... allowing easier access to the engine compartment without taking prop, spinner and cowl off. Pro stuff here!

The ARF also includes a rigid, painted canopy cover. It's white to reflect the heat of the sun, and allows you to place more sponsor decals.

Also with the phenolic double truss control horns, titanium rods and ball links (and pull-pull rudder hardware) included... there isn't much hardware to be purchased.

The titanium axles are a NEW design that makes wheel pant attachment a walk in the park. I think the only thing you need to supply are your choice of wheels and a fuel tank.

One thing for sure... this isn't a mass market, sport plane... but a competition level aircraft designed from the get go to be a top performing competitive aircraft. you can bet we'll see quite a few of these on the pro circuit.

The new "Surprise" scheme yet to be announced will provide a totally different alternative to the Quique/Brio schemes, offering those who prefer a "different" flavor a choice to be VERY excited about.

There is an ARC version as well for those who want to to "go their own way" with the scheme. (This version will not come with the canopy cover)

As you can see with the DA150 in the video it's not hurting for power at all... but it's quite possible that arriving at the same time will be the new DA170...

I suspect this combo will set a whole new level of performance for competition level aircraft... and with it's easy of assembly and great price... will open the doors of top competition to more pilots.

Perhaps the wingbags will be something other than the bubble wrap stuff, too, like cotton or nylon??? Not that the already included plastic baggies aren't much appreciated in the smaller line of models, but I would think that, for $2300(WELL above the price of any other quality wood ARF out there right now, as far as I know...), it would include more top-notch stuff besides a canopy cover and titanium axles...or maybe that price includes shipping?
