Read many posts, need final advice on new buggy...
Yo...I have read many posts and reviews on competition buggies and have narrowed my search to the Mugen MBX-5 and the Kyosho 777.
It comes down to preference, I know, but since I need an engine, start-up equipment, etc...it is a little much in the dinero department. SO....
My Q is, which kit in standard form gives you more bang for the buck, considering the difference in the price? Unfortunately I would have to purchase the 777 or MBX-5, and not the special or the prospec, and on tower hobbies, the 777 is $400 vs. $700 for sp-1. And the MBX-5 is $579 vs. $749 for prospec.
Does that mean the 777 is not as race ready as the MBX-5 since the gap between the levels of each is different. I hear the sp-1 diff sucks or something, so would it be better to build up the standard one with aftermarket parts slowly? I just hate that feeling of not getting that critical upgrade in the package and ending up wishing i had the full blown models. I just want to know your thoughts on which standard version is more reliable and requires less modification to be able to win, because I rely on skill

Check www.ultimatehobbies.com to stretch your dollar. Most of those buggies you mentioned are close to a $100 cheaper there. CALL them to order and get best prices. They are a reputable company.

First of all, follow spokmans advice and go through Ultimate Hobbies, good customer service and good prices.
As for which buggy, It depends on your driving style.
From what I have seen the mbx5 is a little easier to drive. The 777 is more "responsive" to steering.
I personally like the 777, you can push it harder into turns.
If you were ready to spend $579.00 on an mbx5, I would just wait and save the extra $20.00 and buy SP1 for $599.00 at ultimate hobbies.

But you will spend more on a second hand MBX 5 repairing it than you would on a brand new PBS. Plus the PBS is way cheaper for parts and certainly has more spares available.

Dang! Those are some good prices! And they are just as good as Tower?
So, I am liking to Mugen, but...
Are parts readily available? I remember mugens used to have problems with that.
What about the regular 777? How is the parts content?
I am guessing that needs more non-bling upgrades than the MBX-5 to compete?
And will I miss the special diff in the SP-1...i hear mixed reviews?
and what is a PBS?
Thanks for the help!

Because it is a sick car but isn't it 6-700 bucks? I am looking at the standard 777 for 320 and the non-prospec mbx-5 for 499. I was leaning toward the 777 cause it is mad cheap but was just wondering if the 777 would require enough hop ups to equal the price of the mugen, cause then i would get the mugen.
