OS RG questions
Can an OS RG with pull start be converted to non pull start? If it's possible, which parts do I need?
Which glowplug are people using on this engine?
Btw. It's a pain that the search function on this forum can't operate with words with only two letters!

RE: OS RG questions
I think to convert it to a true non-pull start you would have to replace the crank and get a different back plate. I have used pull start engines on a bump box in the past - if you want just cut and tie off the pull start cord and leave it alone. Sounds like what you are trying to do is seal up the back end of the engine - not sure what a crank and back plate costs for the RG - it may be less expensive if you just leave the PS engine alone - use it until it quits and then take the money and put it towards a non PS engine (?)

RE: OS RG questions
Very easy conversion...non pullstart backplate = $5, grind the pin on the crankshaft and your good to go...you wont be able to go back to pullstart once you grind the crank...but pullstarts suck anyways.
OS A5-A3 plugs.

I didn't think of grinding the crank down to size...........if that is the case then it is worth it. I agree that pull starts are nothing but a pain.

RE: OS RG questions
Yep , just did the mod on a new RG yesterday for my bro...third one so far, the LHS only carries non pull RGs with standard shaft[:@]
BTW... bro blew the conrod on his during a runaway...took it back to the LHS and 2 weeks later OS replaced the engine with a new one...cant beat that kind of customer support

RE: OS RG questions
I run OS #8 and 30% , no shim in the head(stock) , it runs good but eats plugs a little more often then I`d like .
Anyone got a link to an aftermarket cooling head for an RG ? I have to run about 265deg to make any power .??

RE: OS RG questions
Dano -- you may be blowing the plugs because you are running with 30% and didn't shim the head. Your engine may be igniting before it is supposed to (due to the higher nitro content) - I think this is called pre-ignition and that can cause many problems.
I know that the RG in my daughters buggy uses and #8 and we run it at about 220 - 230 and it can scream at that temp.
You may want to look into your engine set-up a bit more to find out what is causing the problems - and if you want to continue with the 30% you may want to consider using a shim - especially if you are thinking of replacing the head -- just my 2 cents worth of input!

RE: OS RG questions
I think he means he has an RG with a backplate and one tank though it, which he would swap for one in similar condition with a pullstart assembly...
