help wanted before i buy it
hey guys. im giving up my on-road and going off road. I found the Ofna 1/8 Ultra MBX R2 Buggy 80% Prebuilt on tower, and i wanted to know what kind of .21 engine it needs. Does it need a rotary or slide carb, sg or threaded shaft? Can it use a pullstart or do i need a starter box? What kind of radio/servos are good for it?
BTW, does anybody own one? I would like to see some pics.
here's the link for the car

Thanks.

That is a really old buggy.
You should look at the Ofna Hyper 7 tq instead. It is a much better buggy and has the potential to be upgraded to a much higher spec if you desire. Furthermore it isn't that much more expensive.

A good engine would be the OS RG. Only 110$
And you will be happier if you get a non pullstart version and a starterbox.
Servos: Futaba s3305 - a good cheap servo.

I have one it handles pretty good. Mine has reliability issues. I race it now and then. When I do, I miss at least one qualifier for various reasons. I have a Mugen MBX5 as my main race machine. I mostly practice with MBX-R2.

another good starting buggy is the mayhem (Engros i know you dont like this buggy dont waist your time posting that u think it is inferior) i started with the mayhem and now own a Mugen Mbx5 Prospec. The Mayhem was great to learn how these machines work it comes with a mach .26 engine and a great radio for an rtr the servos are WAY better than any ofna buggy as far as i know...thats just my 2 cents but if you do go ofna be prepared for new servos and radio right away (not that that is a bad thing as long as you want to and expect to).

great engine... i blew my v-spec and got one of these... much easier to tune and it seems to hold it better.... but if you go from a high end motor to a sport motor.. you definately notice a huge difference in speed... but all in all the RG is an amazing motor...
RG upgrade... get a NOVA cooling head off of ebay.. its the best thing that can happen to a RG...

The Hyper7 tq is not a rtr, it is a kit without engine and electronics.

RE: help wanted before i buy it
mm you said yourself that buying an used Mayhem was stupid. Why recommend it to others?????
Don't buy used. Especially not engines. They are most likely sold because the owner has problems with them.
Hyper7 tq and OS RG. A very good combination.

RE: help wanted before i buy it
I dont need a beginner car, because I already have experience with rc's. I dont want the rtr version cuz i heard that the electronics are cheap. I looked at the TQ with the RG engine and a radio with s3305 servos, but it racked up to $537. I know the hobby is expensive but im gonna be looking on ebay. Theres one auction with the car, a ofna hyper 21 8-port engine, and a spider differential. Whats so good about the spider diff? Keep the posts coming!

spider diffs are stronger, and they have a different diff action letting you use a lighter diff oil but getting the same on power feel as a standard diff with better off power turn in.

RE: help wanted before i buy it
This ought to get some of you spun up. I have bought 2 used mugen MBX5's off ebay. One was a prospec $400.00. The other was a MBX5 $280.00. Both were in good shape ready to race. They also came with extra stuff like clutchbell flywheel header some hopups. I also bought a used os rg21 for $50.00 that I use in My MBXr2, it now has several gallons through it. I don't know if I would buy a used hipo engine or servo's. If you buy used read the description carefully. Ask questions.

You can find some really great deals on ebay, i while back i saw a Kanai 3 with a RB-C5 and electronics and about $500 in Racers edge hop ups got for only $400. But you don't always get the best quality so you have to watch closely.

RE: help wanted before i buy it
hyper7 is your best bet you will be able to find parts everywhere, and inexpensive.maybe you could find a nice roller on ebay and put a new eng and electronics in it i have the hyper7 pbs and i love this thing i bought it new(rtr) and swapped out the stock servoes and radio and thats all it needed! the hyper21 8port was a pain to deal with till i got to the 1gallon mark and now this eng is awesome running in the 240-260 range with brutal power but breaking it in stinks!
